Events across the city
It has been wonderful, as we have moved slowly out of the pandemic, to see so many events starting up again and indeed attracting new high profile events such as the British Art Show which was hosted at our amazing recently upgraded art gallery.
Last year again saw the city abuzz with excitement at the hosting of the Tour of Britain and we have a full programme of events to look forward to at our various arts venues across the city to look forward to as the months progress.
Net Zero focus
Aberdeen has been at the forefront for several years now in investing in renewable technologies whether it be through Hydrogen production and usage or through investment in a stronger electrified fleet. I was encouraged to hear of the UK government investing in the scoping of electrification of the north harbour which will help us significantly meet our low emissions targets in the city centre.
The race to net zero is not just the responsibility of local or national government, we all can do our bit and I would like to give thanks to you for everything you continue to do in helping to save our planet.
Roads & Footpaths
Last year the Conservative led administration made a commitment of further investment to our roads and footways across the city in 21/22 with a number of projects identified across the ward including resurfacing works on Derbeth Crescent, Sheddocksley road, Kingswood Drive, Fairly Road and flooding works on Old Skene Road.
In addition, I have been been working with colleagues to ensure the upgrading of the Gillahill to Kingswells Avenue walkway following concerns raised over the safety of the surface. I'm pleased that this work is planned to commence on this in spring next year.
Anti-Social Behaviour and Crime Prevention
I have worked closely with colleagues in the local authority and the community council to address a number of concerns relating to Anti-Social Behaviour and suspicious activity following concerns raised over various issues including local disturbance. This has resulted in additional patrols by our city warden team and interventions from the City ASBIT team.
Surgeries update
While face to face surgeries have not been possible since March 2020 I've had a number of you get in touch via email and phone and of course thanks to our wonderful community council have been able to attend meetings remotely throughout the pandemic. I hope to be able to resume face to face surgeries in the spring, should restrictions allow.
