Richard already works closely with MSP Douglas Lumsden - both seen here at the TLC foodbank in Greenbank Road.
Supporting our community
Richard Brooks has been selected as the Scottish Conservative & Unionist candidate for Kincorth, Nigg and Cove for the council elections in May. He is a chartered engineer and chartered physicist working in the energy sector and has been married for 26 years and has three children.
Richard is member of a local church, a burgess of the City of Aberdeen and a community champion for diversity and inclusion. A keen football fan, he has been a frequent spectator at Allan Park and the Balmoral Stadium, as well as Aberdeen FC. Richard said,
“I have worked with people of all generations and vocations to see positive change happen. However, to benefit our specific area, it will take a whole new level of influence. So, I’d ask you to notice the difference between the promises of many who say they will do lots, and the few who have already done it for years!”
Richard has been working with the local communities in the North East and, in particular, the South Aberdeen area for 20 years. He founded the TLC organisation that has reached thousands of Aberdeen people with school breakfast clubs, befriending, youth clubs and food crisis campaigns (foodbanks and food libraries). Over many years Richard has worked with MPs, MSPs and councillors of all parties to help people in crisis with a hand-up, rather than just a hand-out. He was delighted that this work was recognised and acknowledged in the Scottish Parliament last summer.
Richard is dedicated to education and lifelong learning and, having formerly been the chairman of the Harlaw Area Lifelong Learning Association, he has fought for education and community learning across various age-groups and was delighted to see the Conservative led Aberdeen City Council open Lochside Academy recently.
A community driven campaigner
Having fought to alleviate social isolation and deprivation, and with 20 years first-hand experience of social action, Richard has become a local authority on social deprivation in the North East area.
He was recently asked by a national television channel to represent South Aberdeen in an interview about the social challenges facing our communities. From his detailed work with TLC’s Kincorth Parish Church Foodbank and Altens/Nigg/Cove delivery service, Richard represented the people of Aberdeen who have seen the challenge of whether to eat or heat their houses.
He presented the desperate child-poverty that exists within our communities under the influence of the SNP government - who seem hell-bent on driving forward their divisive independence referendum rather than supporting the health of our community’s children.
Green/SNP national pact threatens local jobs
The last couple of years have been so challenging for residents and businesses alike. In partnership with service providers and over forty 3rd sector organisations, my team and Richard have provided essential services for some of the most isolated and socially vulnerable people in this ward. He said,
“I have been privileged to lead this team effort, with the support of many local businesses and the help of cross-party councillors and members of the Scottish Parliament.
“I recognise that we can do far more together than we can apart. However, the new pact nationally between the Greens and SNP threaten the local livelihoods of 100,000 people within our oil and gas community; and the continued lack of funding support from the SNP for our local council and local health board has seen Aberdeen become the SNP’s forgotten and discarded city. No matter who you normally support in Kincorth, Nigg and Cove, this should not be acceptable.
“The bedrock of our future is the hopes and aspirations of all our residents, regardless of their generation or vocation in life. I will not just sit back and allow the SNP to turn our communities into ghost towns. You deserve
so much more, and I will continue to fight for more!
There are no empty promises with Richard Brooks - he has been helping our community for years!
