I am delighted to be selected as the party’s candidate for the George Street and Harbour ward. The ward deserves a representative who can stand up for their interests and for what is in the best interests of the local area. As we recover and rebuild from the pandemic this is needed more than ever.
In all areas the SNP/Green coalition of chaos has let down communities such as ours. They’ve failed in education, in health and they’ve failed our local businesses. And now they’re going further and slashing the budgets of local authorities. They don’t care about communities; their focus is solely on another divisive independence referendum.
I cannot wait to get out to put forward our positive and ambitious vision for Aberdeen’s greener and prosperous future. I’m looking forward to meeting people, listening to their concerns, and addressing them as best I can.
Come the elections in May I hope people will once again elect a Scottish Conservative for the ward, so we can continue to build on the success of the past five years.
Revitalising the city centre
We have an amazing opportunity to revitalise our City Centre. The Masterplan proposed by the Conservative-led administration is the best way to realise this opportunity – including the full pedestrianisation of the central part of Union Street, while working with local businesses to ensure it can be enjoyed by all. Aberdeen has the second highest business rates in Scotland with almost two-thirds of the Council’s budget being drawn from this. These extortionate and unjustifiably high rates, mixed with the pandemic has led to store closures.
If we want to attract people back, then there must be local businesses that people want to shop at. To achieve this, we will cut business rates in addition to opposing the SNP’s parking tax to ensure people are not penalised for going to work.
