The Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party has announced its candidates for the Aberdeen South and Aberdeen North seats at the next general election.
John Wheeler, a former city councillor, will contest the Aberdeen South seat.
Mr Wheeler, 43, served as a councillor for the Kingswells, Sheddocksley, Summerhill ward from 2017 until 2022, and served as education and children’s services convener.
He spent a number of years working in children’s services in Aberdeen after attending Aberdeen University to study counselling and psychotherapy.
In Aberdeen North, local resident Gillian Tebberen will fight the seat.
Mrs Tebberen has lived in the constituency for nearly 20 years having attended Robert Gordon University to study psychology and social sciences. She worked in the energy and maritime sectors, in HR management and in learning and development for local and international businesses.
Speaking after his selection, Mr Wheeler said:
“It is a great honour to have been selected as the Scottish Conservative candidate for Aberdeen South.
“I am looking forward to taking the fight to the SNP, a party that has not just let down Scotland but completely abandoned our city by governing with the Greens.
“North East SNP politicians have failed to stand up for our region and call out this coalition of chaos.
"And Labour has plainly lost interest in the city, illustrated by Keir Starmer's unwillingness to come here.
"Only the Scottish Conservatives back Aberdeen to be the centre of Scotland's energy future — supporting our home-grown industry towards carbon net zero."
Mrs Tebberen said:
“I am really proud to have been selected to stand in Aberdeen North. Having raised my family here I have seen first-hand how the SNP have let Aberdeen down.
“We have seen the SNP make huge cuts to local government funding resulting in vital public services being closed.
“Time and again Aberdeen receives significantly less funding per person than places like Glasgow, despite contributing more in taxes.
“Residents in Aberdeen North deserve an MP that will actually fight for Aberdeen and demand that we get the fair share we deserve.”
