Depute Provost and Chairman of the City of Aberdeen Conservative and Unionist Association is to become a Member of Scottish Parliament for the North East of Scotland. Following the successful general election results in the North East, the Scottish Conservatives have made a gain of 4 MPs, including the newly sworn in MP for Aberdeen South, Ross Thomson. Following his winning campaign, Ross decided to step down from his role as an MSP to represent his constituents at Westminster.
Upon confirmation of his appointment, Tom said, "I am honoured to have been offered the list seat for the North East region. Representing Rosemount & Midstocket is very important to me and I shall do my utmost in my new role to serve both my council ward and the greater North East region. I believe I can handle both roles. When you look at the two roles they are very much complementary.”
Tom also confirmed that adjustments will have to be made, but he will always put his constituents first and will not let his work affect them. Tom has already accepted that the only activities that will suffer due to this outcome are his leisurely ones and said, "I won’t be able to play my croquet or visit my holiday home in Inverness or go diving anymore." In addition Tom has said he will donate his council salary to charity.
We would all like to congratulate Tom Mason for accepting the role, and wish him and his work the very best.
