An RAF veteran educated at the University of Aberdeen, Ryan served as a councillor over the last council term delivering funding for local community initiatives and supporting improvements to greenspaces. Following the selection of Ryan to stand in the Airyhall, Broomhill & Garthdee Ward. Ryan said:
“As a city Aberdeen has undergone significant change over the last five years. While large projects such as the new exhibition centre and refurbished art gallery were delivered, I want to ensure that our local environment and services are improved. Across Airyhall, Broomhill & Garthdee there are fantastic local community groups and projects and if elected I will work hard to win support and backing for them in the council.
‘I will endeavour to speak to as many residents as possible between now and the election. If you have any suggestions and concerns about what you want your local councillor to be focusing on in the next term, please don’t hesitate to contact me."
Braeside School
Many local residents have been in contact with Ryan to express their concern over the sale by the Council of the old Braeside school site. Ryan said,
“Plans for the site have not yet been submitted by the developer but I would encourage all local residents to look carefully at these plans when they are submitted and make their views known.
“If elected to represent you in May, I will be making sure that the developer engages with the local community to ensure any development is at a scale and a quality that enhances the area and the developer contributes to local benefits to the area.”
Supporting Aberdeen's economy & jobs
Ryan understands the importance of a well managed transition away from fossil fuels whilst protecting jobs in Aberdeen. The economy of Aberdeen has been put in danger by the SNP-Green administration. 100,000 oil and gas jobs are under threat which Nicola Sturgeon appears to be turning a blind eye to.
The Conservatives on council have welcomed the UK Government’s £16 billion North Sea Transition Deal. Ryan said,
“this investment will support jobs in Aberdeen and development in our key energy industries. It will go towards further research helping to improve the efficiency of renewable technologies.”
Woodies garages demolition
The Woodies is an area that is enjoyed by many people but has been blighted by the garages in the middle of the park. Over the years these garages have fell into very poor condition some of which are in a dangerous state. Ryan said,
“It was fantastic that the Conservatives brought forward a motion to Council to have garages removed and the area landscaped instead.
“This motion was backed unanimously and I am pleased to report that the work is well under way with the garages cleared and demolition to start imminently. This area has been ignored for far too long so it has been excellent to see this finally progress.”
